Ph.D. in Law
The Faculty of Law offers Ph.D. Programme which is spread over two to three years.  The basic requirements for seeking admissions to this course is LL.M. Degree with 55% marks and a plus B career as per UGC norms. The basic thrust is on inter-disciplinary approach. 
Master of Laws

This is a two year programme of regular study.  Under the newly approved UGC syllabus which is spread over four semesters, a candidate has to study two subjects which are compulsory in every semester i.e. from 1st to IIIrd and one additional paper to be selected from the specialization group offered by the candidate in each of these semesters.  In the IVth semester, the candidate is required to write a dissertation which is of 200 marks including a viva-voce of 50 marks. The courses designed cover Theory Paper of 60 marks each plus 40 marks in each course assigned for home assignment and seminar paper presentations.  As per the new LL.M. syllabus which has come into force from July 2003, the following courses are offered: 

Semester I :

Course 3:            Additional Paper (Specialization) 

Semester II :

Course 4 :            Indian Constitutional Law :  The New Challenges
Course 5:            Legal Education and Research Methodology
Course 6:            Additional Paper (Specialization)

 Semester III : 

Course 7:            Jurisprudence (Schools)
Course 8:            Practical Training (Clinical)
Course 9:            Additional Paper (Specialization) 

Semester IV:  The students will be required to write a dissertation carrying 150 marks to be followed by Viva-Voce examination of 50 marks.

Specialization Groups for LL.M. 

The students will have to select a particular group in consultation with the Chairman of the Department of Law and will have to study all the papers of that group in first, second and third semester as per the scheme outlined in the approved syllabus alongwith the other two compulsory courses prescribed in that semester.  The specialization group will be offered keeping in view the availability of the expert/teacher in the subject/group  and the decision of the Chairman will be final.
